Dear Jesus what have we become?
We are lifeless bones, our spirit numb.
We have one foot out and one fit in.
We denounce others, but shelve our sin.
Our prayers have turned to tearless duty,
With no sincerity, and no beauty.
Oh, what anguished tears you weep;
To see your people fast asleep.
Our fires quenched, our passion’s gone.
Your beloveds lost her first love song.
And as hell devours in it’s mouth;
Thousands who are crying out.
Can we dare awaken to answer this?
Less deny what our commission is?
Is what we are living for, worth your blood shed?
Or do we shamelessly dishonor your brutal death?
Let us fall to our knees. Let us turn now!
Let us cry out in the midnight hours!
Revive us oh Lord; make us never the same.
Take us through your raging flames.
Shatter our shells of pride and thoughtless mind.
Melt our hardened hearts with your precious love divine.
Let rivers of living water flow instead of pools of sin.
Purge out all the darkened shadows hidden deep within.
Oh Jesus, that we’d see again your tear stained broken face.
Would we still try to justify? Would we try to plead our case?
Or would our eyes meet yours and cry out, “There is my first love!”
Being reminded once again that you alone are enough.
And at that moment die to self and all of our desires,
To be eternally set ablaze by your all consuming fire.
